Multimedia Resource for Learning and Leisure
Established 1887-88
History :- Started in 1887-88 on a very modest scale, the Library was transferred to the New Building in 1911. The present Reference Library was designed in 1930 by Fr. Palacios and inaugurated on 1st July 1937. The Lending Library was set up in 1976-77 with Open Access System.
The Reference Library is on top of the College Hall and is a heritage structure with its beautiful ceiling, intricate design and carved wooden furniture. It is partitioned to create the Honours Room. It is lined on both sides with wooden cubicles. The Cubicles house cupboards with back volumes of journals, Special Collections like Wadia Collection, Polson Collection, Christianity Collection and Rare books.

Library is functional throughout the academic year except on Sundays and Public holidays.

REFERENCE LIBRARY SERVICES
The Reference Library is a heritage structure.
Reference Library including HR accommodates 248 readers, 3 Library Attendants service the two counters. Overnight Loans are allowed after 2.00 p.m., to be returned at 9.00 a.m. next day. Fine is charged for delay in return, 1 Rupee per hour, 10 Rs per day.

4 PCs with Internet Access free of charge. The entire area is Wi-Fi enabled.
Ø Reserve Counter Arts (RCA)
Books in humanities & Question papers of College exams, Text-Book Collection, Study Packs, Media Management Collection.
Ø Reserve Counter Science (RCS)
Books in Sciences, Question papers of College exams, Text-book collection, Study Packs.
Ø Multimedia Library with collection of CDs and DVDs and Institutional Repository ScanCraft Book Scanner cameras, Webgenic eLibrary Plus Server and Computer.
Ø Peer Learning Cubicle for Group Study and Discussions.
Ø Photocopying Facility is outsourced to M/s Daksha Copiers, Photocopying and Spiral and theses binding services are offered. Printouts from soft copies both b/w and coloured, scans from printed material and copies of scans.
Ø Magnetic Gate to detect tattle taped books is at the entrance of the Reference Library.
HONOURS ROOM (HR) SERVICES
Honours Room has a seating arrangement for 75 students and 12 teachers.
1. Reference Works – Encyclopaedias, Dictionaries, Handbooks, Reports, Annual reviews, Art Books, Ph.D. Theses.
2. Periodicals section is housed in the H.R.: Loose issues of academic Journals, Bound volumes of Journals, Old Newspapers and Magazines.
3. Books on different subjects.
4. Special Collections: Christianity Collection, Wadia Collection and Polson Collection, Rare Books, College Magazines.
5. Display of recently acquired books, and special displays.
6. OPAC terminal to access Library database.
7. Peer Learning Cubicle for Group Study.
8. Reference library is Wi-Fi enabled.
9. Seating Area for faculty with 2 internet PCs.
Honours Room (HR) books are not allowed to be borrowed, or taken out of the HR to read. (books from HR-CC & Magazines marked for home issue can be borrowed against a Library card.)
Mr Ashok Rambade is in-charge of the Periodicals and Honours Room, 3 Attendants and Jay Thorat, Library Assistant work in the HR.
Rules
1) Library cards are mandatory for use of any Library service, e.g. Reading, photocopying, referring to Journals, newspapers, computer and internet facilities, Paperback Library…
2) Eating and drinking in the Library is not permitted.
LENDING LIBRARY (LL) SERVICES and RULES
Seating for 42 readers and a reading area on the Mezzanine.
3M Magnetic System with Gate, sensor reader and magnetizing/ demagnetizing terminal are installed in the Lending Library.
Bags Counter with one attendant, for safekeeping the bags while readers are in the Library.

4 Attendants work in the Lending Library, one of them on the mezzanine.
Borrowing from the Lending Library 2 Books can be borrowed from the Lending Library for one week. A book may be reissued maximum 2 times, Books in demand will not be reissued. Library circulation of books is computerized, handled by Library attendants.
Library Fines For overdue books 2 Rs. Per day is charged for the first week and from the eighth day 5 Rs. Per day. A book lost from the Library is to be replaced with the same or current edition of the same.
Loss of library books/cards should be reported to the Librarian in writing immediately.
LIBRARY MEMBERSHIP
The Library is open to all students & staff of the College (including Commerce Section) and to visitors.
A Library membership record is made for every borrowing member when he becomes a member for the first time. Library membership is valid for one academic year. The membership details on the record card are updated when it is renewed. Every student is given 4 cards, 1 for reading in the Library, 2 for borrowing books from the Lending Library for a period of 7 working days and 1 Card for overnight loan from Reserve Counters. Teachers are given 6 cards.
Inter Library access: Letters are issued for bonafide students to access other academic libraries.

LIBRARY COMPUTERIZATION
Started in 1999 with SLIM 3.0 DOS version, the library software is now Web-enabled SLIM 21 System for Library & Information Management with international standards like MARC 21 fields and data import-export facility.
Following modules are used :- Acquisitions, Cataloguing, Serials /Journals, Circulation.
Retrospective conversion of catalogues: The database comprises of over 97,000 records, about 80% are indexed and documented. The database includes books in the Blatter Herbarium and the Heras Library.
LIBRARY LAN comprises of 12 staff terminals, 5 OPAC terminals. The Library attendants are trained in checking OPAC to help students and handle Circulation. Circulation records are maintained in SLIM.
INSTITUTIONAL REPOSITORY/ DIGITIZATION
With the ScanCraft System, College publications are being digitized on priority, College magazines are done, Department magazines are next.
ANNUAL ACQUISITIONS
650 – 700 books are purchased annually and another 600-800 received as gift.
94 journals are subscribed including 14 foreign and 80 Indian journals. Around 25 journals are received as gratis regularly.
LIBRARY ORIENTATION
It is offered to Senior College students in the form of guided tour of the Library . Special guidance is given to Honours students on request.
F.Y. B.A. students (Language disabled) are offered a course in Library Science is taught by Ms. Sonali Paradkar.
COLLECTIONS AND SERVICES:
Displays : regular book displays are organized in Honours Rooms of new arrivals, dust jackets of forthcoming books are displayed on notice board. Book covers are displayed on the Digital notice board of College.
Resource generation through Visitors access : Visitor’s fees are charged for use of Library by outsiders and past students. Teachers from any College or University are given free access.
Extent of the use of services
Statistics of Library use is compiled from all service areas and cumulated annually.
